Step by step guide of what you need to be a HGV driver.

Step 1: Provisional entitlement.

Get your provisional entitlement put on your licence.

This is done by sending off for a D2 form from GOV.UK, 

when it arrives, fill the forms in and send the form and your current licence off to address on the form.

Step 2: Medical

Get your D4 form from GOV.UK (same time as  you get your D2 form) fill the form in and book a medical. with your local company. (If you google HGV medical in your area)

Step 3: Hazard perception and theory test.

Via GOV.UK book your Theory and  hazard perception test at your local test centre. 

Step 4: CPC Module 2 case studies.

Book your CPC  Mod 2 (can be done on  the same day as hazard and theory test, but does not have to be)

Step 5: Driving lessons.

Start your driving course, within which you will do your 3a reverse test and then at the end of your course will be your 3b driving test.

Step 6: CPC Module 4.

Complete training and take CPC Mod 4 test.

Step 7: Celebrate....

If all has gone well with all of the above .

Steps 1 to 4 are included in the courses, but can be done on your own!
